Eyes on the prize: Marathon on the books

My Story

For so long I never thought I’d want to run a marathon. Welp. Those days are over – sorry mom. I’ve got the itch and my sights are set on a marathon in one of my favorite places in the world: Burlington, Vt.

If you’ve never been to Burlington, you really should go. Its the most wonderful little city, nestled between the Green Mountains and Lake Champlain. When I was in college I used to say it was big enough to have everything but small enough that you could be a part of it all.

My longest long run was 15 miles so far this fall. I’ve run 5 half marathons this year – the last one in Shanghai – and I am sure my body is ready to push the distance a little bit.

Average Temperature for Race Weekend”
8:00 a.m. – 48 degrees
Noon – 71 degrees

And a course that’s to die for (as far as I am concerned – it’s through all my favorite places from college). Preview here:

It’s going to be an interesting road getting to 26.2 and I am looking for as much advice as possible. Do you have any training tips? Gear recommendations? Dos? Do nots?
